The inner, unfolded screen (main screen) of the Galaxy Z Fold8 comes with a protective film already applied. When that film lifts at the fold or gets scratched, owners wonder whether to peel it off themselves or pay to have a new one applied.

Peeling it off yourself

Samsung Electronics Service's Galaxy Z Fold8 film FAQ says the main-screen film is a genuine foldable-only film, and that removing it at will or applying a non-genuine film may damage the screen. Once removed, the touch sensitivity tuned to the film changes and touch may not work properly. If you use the phone without the film, Samsung says to turn the touch sensitivity setting off, and to visit a service center if you want the film replaced during use.

Having it reapplied at a service center

A service-center application is free in the three cases below; otherwise it is paid.

The first row is the one-time free genuine film application listed in the Fold8 purchase benefits notice. Using the phone you bought, open the Samsung Members app, download the protective film coupon from the Benefits menu, and present it at a service center. The coupon can only be viewed and downloaded when you log in from the purchased device. One coupon can be used per device purchase, and the film applied is the same as the inner-screen film that ships on the product. If the factory film has lifted and this is your first replacement, check for this coupon first.

The second and third rows come from the reapplication rules in the screen protector application service notice. If a film applied at a service center lifts, it will be reapplied once. For foldables, lifting at the fold is covered once within 90 days (D+90), and other lifting is covered once within 7 days (D+7). Damage from external causes such as dents or scratches due to user fault is excluded. The same notice says a genuine film may be hard to apply if the screen itself is scratched, and that non-genuine films are not applied.

The paid prices come from the same notice's table as of August 2026. The main screen of the Fold8 Ultra and Fold8 costs KRW 21,000, and the cover screen visible when folded costs KRW 17,000. The notice says prices may change without prior notice depending on the model, and asks you to confirm film stock at the center through the call center (1588-3366) before visiting. On Saturdays, whether film can be applied may depend on how busy the center is.

The cover screen is a separate case

The FAQ states that the Fold8 cover screen does not ship with an AR film attached. The purchase-benefit coupon covers the inner film only, so it cannot be used on the cover screen. You can buy a genuine AR film and apply it yourself, or pay for application at a service center. If you have no film, the center sells a paid application package that bundles one AR film with the service. Genuine AR film carries a three-month warranty from purchase, but only defects present before application qualify for replacement. Bubbles, lifting, or misalignment from self-application cannot be exchanged or refunded.

The notices list only the free periods and prices; they do not say how many times a film can be reapplied or how much screen durability changes without a film.
